Gender Equity Policy
Purpose:
IRC’s organizational goal is to help establish durable solutions for communities affected by conflict. For durable solutions to truly foster peace, stability and social, economic and political development, basic human rights must be respected. IRC recognizes that women’s rights are human rights and essential for sustainable development.
In most of the countries where we work, gender inequality is prevalent: girls and women do not have the same rights, status or opportunities as boys and men. Gender equality, or equality between women and men, means that there is equal enjoyment of rights, resources, rewards, and opportunities regardless of whether a person is born female or male.
Our Policy:
Throughout IRC, we understand that gender equality is essential to the achievement of freedom, human dignity and self-reliance and to the provision of meaningful durable solutions.
Our organizational policies, procedures and actions reflect our commitment to gender equality.
Our programs promote the rights and status of women and encourage participation of all community members, particularly marginalized women and men.
In our external relations with individuals and organizations, we advocate for gender equality, ensure that women’s voices are heard and act in accordance with this policy.
IRC recognizes that gender equality is fundamental to the achievement of our organizational mission. As such, IRC is committed to the promotion of gender equality in all aspects of our operations and programs. Our organizational policies, procedures and actions demonstrate this commitment. We promote the ongoing development of organizational structures and policies to ensure sustainable adherence to this Policy.
Our programs, in every country where we work, including the United States, empower women and promote women’s rights as human rights. The principles articulated herein guide our program design, development, implementation and monitoring.
In action and in word, our interactions and interface with external individuals and organization reflect our commitment to gender equality. Consistent with our mission, we give voice to these principles and advocate for gender equality within each partnership, collaboration and consortium with which we work.
