Check Case Updates
To view any case status updates on an application for a Green Card, Asylum, Citizenship, etc., you will need to access the USCIS portal. To access the portal, you will need to 1) locate your receipt number; 2) enter your receipt number correctly on the USCIS website.
Step 1: Locate your receipt number
Within 3 to 4 weeks of submitting your application, you will receive a receipt notice titled “Notice of Action”, which is proof that USCIS has received your application. The Notice will include your receipt number.
This number should be 13 characters starting with 3 letters, such as “ZHN1234567890”.
If you cannot find it, call USCIS at (800) 375-5283 Monday-Friday from 6am to 6pm.
Step 2: Enter your number on the USCIS website
Once you have located your receipt number, you can visit the USCIS Case Status website at: https://egov.uscis.gov/
Once you have reached the USCIS website, you will be prompted to enter your receipt number. Do not include any dashes when you enter your receipt number.
Step 3: View Case Updates
The online system will show the last action taken on your case and will let you know the next steps, if applicable.
